I am really happy and honoured to be the recipient of the Ksenija Hribar Award for the promising choreographer at the Biennial of Slovenian Contemporary Dance Art Festival Gibanica (aka moving cake). The festival offers a selection of the best contemporary dance production by domestic producers and is considered the most significant contemporary dance platform in Slovenia. You can find complete Award Committee argumentations here.
I’ve put together a short overview of the stage works I did in the last years - check it out and enjoy! But this time is not all about retrospective. There are some new projects on the horizon. More news coming soon! Stay updated!
In the next three days we will present the Madrid version of Burn Time with a great team of local performers and enthusiasts under the direction of André Uerba in the spectacular big space of Naves Matadero. Everyone is welcome! You can find more information about the events here!
A couple of days ago Mladina, a popular Slovene weekly magazine published my portrait. It is available only in Slovene and the full article can only be accessed by paying a subscription, but nevertheless - here is a screenshot of it, linking to the site:
We had a blast in Maribor and the piece now travels abroad for the first time - you can catch me in Kule, Berlin on the 7th of November! Thinging also got the first review published in Dnevnik newspaper. Pia Brezavsček, a critic and a theatrologis, wrote (among other things):
“[When Jan] opens the curtains he also opens our heads to the wide object universe and makes us feel like small and insignificant things. In ecosystems, we humans are only one component of many, if we are present at all.
We can only hope that another talented creator who knows how to think choreography wider than the formula dance equals (human) movement won’t be forced to work only abroad.”
We had a full and successful Thinging premiere night! Big thanks to the amazing team of artists and friends that helped to make it happen, to Emanat for trusting me and producing the piece, to PTL for their hospitality in the theatre space, to everyone that came in during the process and gave valuable feedback and to everyone present yesterday! It was a pleasure!
The dates for 2018 are here! The premiere is around the corner! Come and see Thinging!

Here comes a little Thinging teaser, enjoy!
A couple of weeks ago we had a successful Berlin Burn Time premiere. Soon the piece travels to Portugal, where a group of local artists and enthusiasts will prepare and perform another variation of the piece. You can find exact dates with more information on André Uerba’s website.
With Burn Time done I’m taking a relaxing summer rest, but the preparations for the upcoming No. Matter! What? (working title) solo project are already under way!
Burn Time had a successful premiere at the Ukrep/Light Guerrila Festival. The piece now travels to Azores, Portugal where it will be done with a local group of artists before we show it in Berlin, Germany in the frame of Open Spaces. Thanks to everyone that came to see us and hope to see you soon in Berlin in the burning meditative slowness.
Last week we had a productive round of rehearsals, where we adapted the performance Variations on Slowness: TIME OUT (premiered in Ljubljana, December 2015) into an unplugged version, ready to be presented in Skopje, Macedonia. Don't miss us on April 26th in Kino Kultura!
It is almost official! After two years the MA SODA is for me successfully completed. It's been a wild ride during which I met many wonderful people and had the oppurtunity to focus on developing my work. I am thankful for all the encounters and challenges; now it's time to move on. In a couple of weeks I start working on a project LUST by Anna Aristharkova. Looking forward! I'll keep you updated.
After being offline for some years my website is back. Here I will (try to) regularly update you with news about projects, processes, dates, texts and other materials. Feel free to comment and send me some feedback.
